The Definitive Guide to Parenting Programs in the Workplace

One of the common problems facing employers is how to attract, develop and retain employees.  Employees want to feel supported by their companies. One of the best ways to support working parents is through parenting programs.

What are parenting programs?

Parenting programs are voluntary benefits offered to employees who have recently welcomed a child into their life through birth, adoption, or even surrogacy. Parenting programs may also be offered for other parents, such as parents of teens or special needs children.

The programs may consist of the following elements:

  • 1:1 coaching

  • Small group coaching

  • Online app

  • Seminars

  • Tools

Programs help parents and caregivers balance responsibilities at home and at work. These programs equip caregivers with the tools they need to be successful and advocate for themselves.

Some parenting programs have components for managers and supervisors for employees who are navigating caregiving responsibilities.

Parenting programs may last for three months up to a year.  Parenting programs are open to moms, dads, and caregivers.  Participants in caregiver programs typically support because they feel they can better advocate for themselves due to participation in the program.  Program fees may be based on a group or individual basis.
